A Few More Vacation Shots

1) Malls pretty much epitomize this city. We saw the most locals when at the mall late at night (to see the fountain show again, not to shop).
2) The old souk is pretty touristy, but I found it more relaxing than its authentic counterparts. I practiced my Arabic with Afghani shopkeepers, and they taught me how to say "thank you" in Pashto.
3) These wooden abras transported us back and forth across the creek for about 30 cents a ride.
4) The gold souk is the souk that sells, uh, gold.
5) A woman's worth to her husband in this society is measured in the amount of gold he's given her. I'm still not sure whether the primary shoppers in this gold souk are locals or tourists.

Kendra, just wanted to let you know that I always enjoy reading your posts and looking at the pictures - this is one of the best ways to learn about culture and history! Someday you will have to direct your fiance to that golden jewelry shop! ;) ~ Rachel J.
