My last school holiday, some friends took me to a nearby wadi for a hike. It was a gorgeous day and a lovely time! The wadi was unusually green for this time of year, a sign that the region has received some good rainfall.
I think the drive in and out might have been almost as exciting as the hike. The roads were narrow and rutted and fell away steeply on one side, though only a couple of yards, perhaps, not dozens.
Pictures speak more loudly than words. I'm posting by attaching the pictures to an e-mail, so they require captions here.
Goats in the road: Adi
Road: Looking up the wadi
Pool: Quite a few teenaged boys were taking turns jumping into this pool! I don't think the people I hiked with had ever seen it so deep! Not being sure whether it was culturally appropriate to take pictures of shirtless locals, I limited myself to pictures of the pool.
Goat in tree
Girl with goat: She looked all of fourteen, but she would pick the goats up and fling them into the water, roll them around and rub them a bit, then send them up the bank and do the same with the next one!
Lizard on rock: We saw more than one of these, but this one was turquoise
Twisted tree: Dunno what created this pattern!
House: Another view of the wadi
Cars: So what do you do when this happens? Well, the black car being outnumbered, he turned around.
