Local Wedding Pros and Cons

Why having a wedding in the local style appeals to me:
  • It can be very simple. At home or in a hall. All you really need is loud music and some food. Massive amounts of decorations, flowers, etc. are usually not necessary. Invitations, also, may be optional.
  • Wedding dresses that cover are okay.
  • The groom pays for the wedding (I think).
  • I'd get to wear fun clothes. And it wouldn't have to be a white dress. If I went traditional, I could choose any bright colors I like.
  • Pretty much no men see you in your full wedding finery except your husband. Well, this is a neutral more than a pro.
  • I'd get my hair and makeup fussed over a lot.
  • Henna is fun.
  • You get to come in really slowly, then sit on a platform in front of and above everyone else. By yourself until your husband comes, then with him. Wait, is this a pro?
  • My sister would have to dress to the nines and dance a lot in front of all of the women. I'd like to see that.
  • My mother and mother-in-law would cavort around, doing traditional dances like they were really happy. Oh, wait. That probably wouldn't be too hard.
  • People have fun without drinking.
  • I wouldn't have to wear skin whiteners to be white. Because everyone knows that really white is really beautiful.
  • The groom's outfit is pretty distinguished ... for a dress.

Why having a wedding in the local style doesn't appeal to me:
  • I'd have to wear way too much makeup. You definitely wouldn't recognize me.
  • Um, the music is kinda loud.
  • The hood you wear when there's a chance that any man will see you besides your husband (exiting the wedding) is reminiscent of the KKK.
  • There's not a lot of symbolism, though the husband laying his hand on the wife and reciting holy book would be cool if it were my holy book.
  • My brothers and father couldn't be with me. They'd be standing outside with the other men, and I'm pretty sure that would be boring for them. Because I'm the life of the party.
P.S. This post is not a hint of plans of a wedding of any style.

Awesome pros and cons! : ) Best line: "My brothers and father couldn't be with me. They'd be standing outside with the other men, and I'm pretty sure that would be boring for them. Because I'm the life of the party."

I love you!
