Yes! EQUIP XX has nearly finished its first week of the infamous eight weeks of classroom training. Dr. Blackwood has been teaching on his normal topics: personal Bible study, personal testimony, witnessing, follow up, and discipleship. All of the teaching is rich, but the material on follow up and discipleship is unique in that I haven't heard it taught systematically elsewhere. And Dr. Blackwood is certainly an authority on the topic, having discipled many men in his years with the Navigators and as a pastor.
As far as the class itself . . . I prayed for 20, and God sent 20--even one in the last 24 hours before the class started. Eleven guys and nine girls is the breakdown. Two girls' team leaders bring the classroom count to 22 . . . well, 24 and 1/2, including Mrs. Blackwood this week, and one and a half of Matt and me (because one of us is often out of the classroom at any given time).
Pray for us! It's a lively bunch, but God's work in their hearts is already evident. Dr. Benjamin is slated to teach all of next week, then the Millers and Mike Davis the week after. I hope to keep you all somewhat updated on progress. If Jamie has time to get her camera out, I may have some pictures for you, too! My next Happy Things post should record some of their antics, also.
