Okay, so I spoke to soon in my last comment (see previous post). I'm sorry, but that top photo just doesn't leave me jealous at all. I'm sure it's good, I'm just sayin'. The fresh sugar cane juice is totally intriguing though: what was it like? Um, sugar water?
It's a big pile of rice with lamb and almonds on top. Then you drizzle it with a goat milk sauce that gives it a pretty strong flavor. It's not too bad, but better with less sauce than more (in my humble opinion).
The sugar cane juice was--yeah--a little like sugar water. But picture the faintest coconut flavor, too. It wasn't quite like anything else I've ever had, so it's hard to truly compare it.
I'll never be Pollyanna, but my worldview says that life has purpose, and a happy heart can have a perpetual smorgasbord! This blog is my own little dinner party to celebrate both the obvious and the elusive joys of life.
In its early days, the blog celebrated a life in residential care with a heap of delightful young people. It has morphed with my jobs in social services, communications, and education. Now it peeks in on life overseas, as I learn another language and culture.
Yes, some of the jokes and highlights are "you-had-to-be-there" ones, but many are universal portrayals of human nature, complete with idiosyncrasies. Please come in and enjoy the feast!
(For background on the origin of the blog's title, see its inaugural post.)

Oo! I remember that national dish. And I'm so glad you got the juice...I was in the city the other day, thinking about you didn't get it here.

The more I look at it, the more curious I am. What is it? Rice, lamb and toasted cucumber seeds? That's my best guess : )

Fascinating! And hey, I wasn't too far off!
