Just found this on Chris's blog. Yeah, he's blunt. (The ellipses is where the line "Bunch of pansies" was.) And yes, of course, there could be an op-ed piece explaining the flip side. But he's working and trying to live Jesus in a hard place--maybe hard because of the softness, the materialism, the overall lethargy toward spiritual things. I think it's okay to be frustrated about that. The nice thing is, you don't live near him, so he's not talking about you. Unless he is talking about you, because I'm pretty sure there are times that he could be talking about me.
"Commencing rant. I get pretty tired of people telling me they can’t do things. I can’t do my devotions in the morning because I’m not a morning person. I can’t exercise because I don’t have enough time. I can’t serve in the church that way because I have this weird relationship with the other person that is serving in that same area. Read some new testament, people. Victory in Christ, Christ does it all, Christ is all, I can do all things through Christ. . . .
First of all, it’s not you, all you have to do is be willing and have the faith. Pretty sure Paul didn’t find prison all that comfortable. I don’t think “crucified upside down” was on Peter’s list of things to do. We, I, complain so much sometimes. We forget why we do these things.
I’ve been trying to wear “drama blinders” this week, and I have been so much happier. I’m only focused on God and a godly reaction to situations that God puts me in and life has been easier. I’m happier. I complain less. Living where you work, working in a church, having your boss also be your pastor and your father-in-law, there’s unlimited drama, if you want it. All of it is Vegas lights and noise.
We’re in enemy territory, everything is designed against us. If we focus on the noise, on the stuff that has been designed to distract us, of course we will be distracted. We’re Steven Seagal and our plane just got shot down over North Korea. What would Steven do? He would say some cheesy line and start cracking heads until he took down Kim Jong-il in some creative, R-rated manner. We need that special forces level focus on our mission. We are here to worship God and make more worshippers. Not whine about how 'that’s just too hard.' We can’t waste our time, because I guarantee you that Mr. Jong-il isn’t wasting his."
