The Gilbreths' Tom

Yes, Belles on Their Toes is the first book I completed reading this Christmas break. It inspired me to be more like Mrs. Gilbreth. But last night I was more like Tom.

You see, my parents are away, and I am doing all the gourmet cooking (hah!). Last night I went to fix spaghetti and meatballs for Clyde, Kay, and me. Mom told me there were frozen meatballs in the freezer. (Cooking is one arena in which I prefer to make tricky things simple. Why go to the trouble of making something from scratch when you can save time and get it out of the freezer?! Actually, I don't believe that way always, but at times . . .) I found some leftover meatballs in a plastic ziploc in the kitchen freezer. There was another new bag in the basement freezer, but I figured it was far more economical to use the smaller bag for the three of us. I pulled out the big bag in case we didn't have enough, though.

I began to get suspicious when I realized that the color of the leftovers was decidedly lighter than the color of the "fresh" ones. To assure myself that I was cooking meatballs, after sticking two in the pan, and shortly before pouring sauce over them, I sliced one in half . . . and found it 100% bread! A donut hole! Posing as a meatball. The idea. I'm still chortling over the idea of spaghetti sauce and donut holes. A whole new twist on Dunkin'!

That, folks, is something to be happy about. Go ahead and blush for me.

Well, I didn't blush, but I laughed!

I've read Belles On Their Toes several times, and I love it! Don't worry about being like Tom, though. You're a LOT better than HE was, and that is certain. :)

I think you should start a new tradition. Good ole donut holes and pasta. An interesting sweet/savory combo... At least it made for a good chuckle!

Ha,ha,ha,ha! Guess mother's are good for something sometimes!!! Those donut holes were there for a rainy day. Too sugary for Kay, Dad and me!
