A Thing for Bling

Mind you, I wear minimal jewelry at home. But here it's more expected, especially in the bigger cities or in progressive circles. I could get away with wearing none, because I live in a smallish and very conservative city. But I like to live a little on the edge.

I first became aware that my hands were a little plain when my former Arabic teacher gifted me with the first ring. I thought it a monstrosity at first, but I wore it to make her happy. And then it made me happy.

My second ring, the green one, was a worse monstrosity, and I liked it more. It was Minnie Mouse, and was also a gift from a friend. I wore it a day I took a trip to another city, and our secretary looked at me and said,"There must be someone special in that city!" Not really. I just know that the ladies dress up a little more. So I confess that when a new shoe, home goods, and jewelry store opened in town, I actually bought the purple and silver rings. I know. Lo, how the mighty are fallen.
