Today was a weekend day and thus not ordinary. But for those of you who might wonder what an "ordinary" day is, this is it. I haven't been teaching, as my director has been traveling a lot and has asked me to cover his admin responsibilities while he travels. I'm really hoping that someone else will be here to cover those before our new term November 3, so that I can teach then!
I live about seven minutes from the office and seven minutes from my language teacher's house, which is perfect!
I will post pictures of the new apartment, once it is better settled. My bedroom curtain and living room "couch" are supposed to be finished next Monday, and I still haven't found a suitable bookshelf/cupboard so that I can relocate the piles of books and games on my spare room floor. So the bedroom and living room are not at all set up the way I want them, but they should be next week!
6:00/6:30/6:45 Rise and shine and prepare for the day
8:00 Out the door for language class. I'm usually late.
8:15-10:15 Language class with my trusty local teacher (Sundays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays)
Mondays are my "off" morning days, which means I can visit local friends before going
to work.
10:30-12:30 Work at the office. Lately I've been covering our secretary's position at the front desk,
because she suddenly and unexpectedly took a new job. I answer phone calls, give
placement tests, answer e-mails, communicate with staff, drum up new students, etc.
I do admin on top of this, which includes decision-making, marketing, and a lot
of communication with staff and students.
1:00-3:00 (Mondays and Wednesdays) I stay at the office and have language class online with
my teacher in the country next door. The other days I've used this time so far to settle
into my house, get groceries, study/do homework, plan meals, etc.
4:00-6:00 Back to work at the office. More of the same stuff as in the mornings. Except often
students start coming in for placement tests around 5:30, so I often end up doing
interviews and don't leave until 7:00, 7:30, or 8:00.
Later evening Decide whether I'm too tired to cook. Get food or cook. Hang out with local friends,
study, talk to my fam online, etc.
Weekends are Thursdays and Fridays, and I also study language 8:00-10:00 AM on Thursdays. I leave the rest of Thursdays fairly free to be able to visit friends and catch up on housework and studying. Same with Fridays, though I'm starting to to to the capital every couple of weeks for some additional fellowship. It's a 1.5+ hr drive each way.
Of course Friday evenings and Saturdays are rest times, though having a four-hour commitment to the office each day means that I go in from 4:30-8:30 PM on Saturdays.
So far, most of the apparent free time in the schedule has been thoroughly consumed with house setup. Now that this is slowing down, I'm going to be more intentional about studying and practicing language with local friends. I also hope to join a local "gym" (well, the room for the ladies in the gym, and the membership fee is very reasonable, AND there is a swimming pool that ladies can use Mondays) so that I can get some exercise, which I sorely need. It's still too hot out to walk comfortably, except early in the mornings and late at nights. But the cooler winter days will be here soon enough!
