Happy Things

After a silence induced by holiday and work busy-ness, here's the latest chronicle of happiness . . .

• The seasons. When I go in the store and see fall decorations, I think, "I love fall." When I go in and see Christmas decorations or snowflakes, I think, "I love Christmas and winter."
• "Who needs a computer to have meeting? I wonder what Moses did. He probably canceled the Exodus--couldn't do it, didn't have a GPS." --Gerry
• "GPS for Jesus: I had to read it--best of both worlds." --Gerry
• Josh, thanking God for the ice storm: "All the branches that are down, it means less leaves next year!"
• Gerry's response to Josh: "[Maybe we could have] one huge ice storm within a mile of Fairwood--no leaves! And if we paved everything, we wouldn't have to mow!"
• Amy, thanking God for her sister Mary's laser kidney stone surgery: "[This hospital has] the laser machines, and the other hospital has banging machines."
  Gerry: "I have banging machines in the garage."
• "I'm thankful that I got to correct the punctuation on Ben's and Bobby's [papers] . . . it makes me laugh a lot . . . just kidding." --Aaron

• Bobby, on Hebrew class: "I like learning new languages--not that I've learned any before this, but I like the thought of being able to talk behind people's backs."
• H, about girls he has dated: "I don't trust them as far as I can throw them . . . not to say that I date large women."
• H: "Can I put illegal activities on my resume? . . . Well, then can I put 'traveling salesman'?"
• Cherilyn to her mom, as she was reading notes of blessing for the upcoming baby's arrival: "I was trying to figure out if this was from you because you signed it 'Lorraine.'"
  Aunt Lorraine: "Well, it was a prayer, and I didn't know if God would know which 'mom' it was."
• Relatives discussing Uncle Earl's slippery driveway: "If you slid down the driveway, it wouldn't be fun."
  Bill: "Well, it would be fun, but it might not end well."
