Pray for Us!

Last week and this week the LIT department has been teaching Bible Clubs here in the city. Mrs. Norcross has coordinated about five different clubs over the past month, and various staff members are running them. The LIT department is responsible for just two. Last week we taught across the street at Talbot Park, and this week we're teaching in the empty lot next to Reid Place, down in Fountain Square.

Our park club was small--four to eight kids most days, and no kids on a day that was stormy. This week we thought we might be in for a taste of the same (or worse!) when no kids showed up at club on Monday. We changed our club time from morning to afternoon, though, and yesterday thirteen kids showed up! They're really wanting love. One boy I met on the street seemed glad to talk and talk. (He also warned me quite seriously to be careful because his aunt had been run out of her house at gunpoint up the street.) I had a chance to talk to some parents (siblings/cousins/babysitters?), too. It's nice to get out and meet people in the city like that. One 20s-ish guy in the neighborhood knew that we lived at an old hotel building, which reminds me that others have sowed seeds in this neighborhood.

Please pray that the right kids show up today, tomorrow, and Friday. Pray that we'll be able to show them the love of Jesus, and that their hearts will want and understand the truths of the Bible stories and teaching. Yesterday five-year-old Jack asked for a Bible and was really hungry to hear about Jesus. Pray for open doors with their parents, too--that we will be able to speak to and encourage them. And pray for the leaders and who are teaching. We may not be the most polished presenters, but pray that we'll have a love for the kids and get outside of ourselves to invest in their lives.
